Video has become the most powerful tool available for artists to introduce, share, and promote their work within online communities, across the country, and around the world.
I’ll help you create a short video for you to add to your website (they’re simple to create, too), post on YouTube, as well as any other number of other Internet destinations. (Remember: YouTube is Google, which means that Google searches will find you there, too.)
In it, you’ll simply talk (with me) about your writing, and about the ideas and people who inform what you do. The objective is to simply give your readers a glimpse of the person behind your work. That’s the story that readers will connect with and will build a community of readers. You.
Your Objectives:
- Think first. Define your goals: what’s the story you want to tell in a 3-minute video?
- It’s Video: so it should be visually engaging. Where should the ‘shoot’ to take place? Do you want pictures or graphics included? Multiple angles?
- Keep it Short: 3-4 minutes is ideal.
- Tell Them About It: include a call to action: anything from downloading a sample chapter to going directly to a “Buy Now” link. This can be a hot link, a title card at the end, or a simple sentence from you talking to the camera.
- Optimize and Publish: ensure that it includes the ‘metadata’ (keywords embedded in the video file) for search engines to find it. Then publish it (on the Internet), and make it easy for people to find it.

(Websites are easy to pull together, and I can help you there. But there are dozens of other options out there too, including friends and family who know how to do it. Call on them!)
